WiFi QR Code: Let Guests Join Your Network With One Scan

Reading a 16-character WiFi password off a router sticker is nobody's favorite part of visiting a café, rental apartment or office. A WiFi QR code fixes it: guests point their camera, tap the prompt, and they're connected. Both iPhone (iOS 11+) and Android (10+) support this natively in the camera app.

How a WiFi QR code works

The code encodes a small standardized string — WIFI:T:WPA;S:NetworkName;P:password;; — directly in the pixels. Your phone's camera recognizes the format and offers to join the network. Two important consequences:

• No server is involved. It's a static code: it works offline, can't be tracked, and can't expire.
• The password is readable by anyone who scans it. A WiFi QR code is a convenience, not a security measure — treat it like the password sticker it replaces.

Create one in 30 seconds

1. Open the free HonestQR generator and choose the WiFi type.
2. Enter the network name (SSID) exactly as it appears, the password, and the security type (almost always WPA/WPA2).
3. Optionally style it — colors, rounded modules, your logo.
4. Download PNG for screens, or SVG/PDF for print.

Tips that save reprints

• Print at least 3 × 3 cm for table tents and frames; guests often scan from an arm's length away.
• Label it. "Scan to join WiFi" plus the network name doubles the success rate for guests who've never used one.
• Hidden networks: tick the "hidden" option so phones know to probe for the SSID.
• Changed your password? The old code stops granting access (that's the point), so reprint. If your password rotates often, keep the code on a screen instead of laminated prints.

For cafés, hotels and offices

A guest-network WiFi code is the classic use: keep guests off your main network, print one code per room or table, and rotate the guest password on your schedule.
