QR codes for hotels: update in-room info without reprinting a single card
Hotels print QR codes into expensive laminated compendiums, door hangers and room cards — and then the WiFi password changes, the spa menu moves, or the "free" QR provider expires the code mid-season. HonestQR fixes both failure modes: static codes that physically cannot expire, and dynamic codes you can repoint without touching the print.

Where hotels actually use QR codes
- Guest WiFi at the front desk and in rooms. A WiFi QR code connects phones without typing a 16-character password. When the password rotates, regenerate the free static code — or use one dynamic code on printed cards that points to a WiFi instruction page you edit.
- Digital compendium & room service menu. Point one dynamic code at your guest directory; change room-service hours or seasonal menus without swapping cards in 120 rooms.
- Checkout review collection. A code on the key-card sleeve or checkout counter pointing at your Google or Tripadvisor review link. Dynamic analytics show which placement actually gets scanned.
- Late checkout / upsell offers. Rotate the destination per season — same printed code, new offer.
Why static-first matters for hotels
In-room print runs are big and expensive: compendiums, laminated cards, framed signs. A QR provider that expires codes turns your entire print inventory into waste. HonestQR static codes are generated in your browser and encode the content directly in the image — no server dependency, nothing to expire. Use dynamic codes only where you genuinely want to change the destination or measure scans, at a flat $29/year for unlimited codes.
Start from a hotel-ready template
These generator templates preset colors, frames and content type — one click and you only fill in your details:
Set up your first room card in five minutes
- Open the generator with the Guest WiFi template and enter your network name and password.
- Add your logo and brand colors; the contrast checker warns if it will not scan in warm room lighting.
- Download SVG or PDF for the print shop — at least 2 × 2 cm with a quiet margin.
- For the compendium and review codes, create a free account (3 dynamic codes included) so destinations stay editable after printing.
FAQ
Can guests connect to WiFi without an app? Yes. WiFi QR codes use a standard format that iPhone and Android cameras understand natively — scanning joins the network directly, no app or typing needed.
We rotate the WiFi password monthly. Static or dynamic? A static WiFi code encodes the password itself, so a rotation means regenerating the (free) code. If reprinting cards monthly is not practical, use one dynamic code that points to a small WiFi info page you edit — the printed code never changes.
Can I track scans per floor or per placement? Yes — create one dynamic code per placement (lobby, rooms, elevator) and compare scan counts and times in the analytics dashboard.
Will our codes stop working if we cancel? No. If you cancel Pro, existing dynamic codes keep redirecting — that is a written promise. Static codes cannot expire at all because the content is encoded in the image itself.
